Why Fur Lovers are Tired of Hiding

A few decades ago, a women wearing a fur coat represented status; sport a fur coat in the 21st century and your likely to receive backlash from Veganites or anti-fur extremists such as PETA, IAFC, or Fur Free Alliance.

What is it about the fur coat we love?

For starters, wearing a fur coat once symbolized rank and elegance — not to mention the warmth and sophistication it provided the owner.

Hypothetically, let’s say an interest in purchasing a fur coat exists.

First, consider what type of furs are available. If you’re looking for a high-end product, you’re in the business for a Mink, Sable, Fox or the la crème of furs, a Chinchilla.

Starting at, or around $30,000, depending on the style or length, you can own a Chinchilla.

My favorite however, whether real or faux, is the Fox Fur; it’s sleek, shiny, full-bodied, plush, yet, lightweight which is ideal for trim on collars, cuffs, wraps or headbands.

If you’re not quite ready to shell out your life savings, then consider a Beaver, Rabbit, or Raccoon Fur.

In general, a Beaver Fur will cost between $80 for a hat, with full-length coats averaging under $1000.

On the contrary, what is it about the fur coat that attracts negative attention?

Largely, most anti-fur organizations are concerned with the trapping process or devices used to secure the subject involved in fur trade. Ironically, I must agree, some of the methods used by trappers can be complex.

However, leather, which is also derived from an animal source, cow hide to be exact, usually carries little or no backlash or scrutiny from animal cruelty groups.

Nonetheless, the same demise of the ordinary cow is like that of the Chinchilla or other animals associated with fur trade. So, what exactly is the difference here?

For whatever reason, there is little or no public protest of leather sofas, coats, shoes or purses which trade freely on the market without criticism. But wear a fur coat, even if its faux, and you’re instantly a pariah.

Fur coat advocates are up to their neck and tired of hiding!

The resurge of fur coats is on the rise and gaining momentum. I’m not sure how the opposition will handle the growing popularity, but keep in mind consumers have a right to buy or wear whatever seems pleasing to their nature.

If we continue coat-shaming or regulating the right of self-expression, we’ve destroyed the constitution all over again, so stop the bullying!
